Central Arkansas EEI Focus Area 4: Use the Land We Already Have and Fill the Vacant Lots

 

For many communities, growth means building new housing developments near city borders, expanding city size, increasing travel times, and spending lots of money on new construction. But growth can look quite different. Infill development means constructing new buildings on vacant or underutilized lots. Infill development may make cities more walkable, increase access to public transit or regional greenways, and improve air quality by reducing driving time.

ADUs
Also known as a mother-in-law apart-ment or backyard cottage, ADU stands for Accessory Dwelling Unit and is a resi-dential unit on the same lot as a single-family home. These self-contained homes have their own entrance, typical-ly a full kitchen and bath, and living and sleeping space, but on a much smaller scale than the primary residence.
